The bad news is our refridgerator quit working on Sunday. We have many coolers so instead of paying for emergency service we just set up a big cooler with blocks of ice and put all the fridge stuff in there. ( Lots of experience from hurricane power outages) My neighbor has a big chest freezer so he is storing my frozen stuff for me.  The part we need was supposed to be here yesterday but no it did not come. I am hoping for today but just in case this morning I bought two more blocks of ice and two bags of ice as well so we are all set up for today and part way into tomorrow. My husband took time yesterday to clean out under the fridge where the compressor and stuff is so it's all ready to fix, if we just had the part. I am tired of living out of a cooler, and it reminds me of hurricane season only with the air conditioner and lights working.

The other bad news is we still haven't gotten a new door put in and we had to pay the last carpenter for materials he left here. He sent us a bill for them and my husband decided instead of fighting with him, to pay for the door we did have put in and pay partially on the bill for materials we didn't authorize him to buy. I wrote a letter to go with the check that tells him to consider this as payment in full since he never was contracted or authorized to buy the extra stuff and didn't even give us all the stuff he charged for. At least that is over with.

The good news is I only have a little over 2 weeks until puppy time! I can't wait. I think I have settled on Raina as a call name for her. It means wise guardian in German. I am still practicing German commands but haven't decided if I am going to switch to English commands instead. I may do it gradually since she is used to hearing German. I'm so excited to meet her. I know Pyrate will love her. He just loves puppies and we use him at obedience class to introduce the puppies to bigger dogs because he is so gentle.

Now that I've unloaded all that, I better get to work so I can buy dog food and puppy food, and pay for the fridge part.

I just got the final word, my puppy will arrive from Germany in 4 weeks! When I found out they were finally born I about went crazy. I am still waiting for pictures of her so I can post them. The partner of my trainer is in Germany and he is picking out two pups to send to the US. Another woman here wants another one.  She got one from him about 4 years ago so she knows the ropes of where to pick them up etc. The two puppies will be shipped at the same time so we can ride up together to Miami to pick them up. The weather has to be right, not too hot, or they won't ship them. I have been waiting what seems like an eternity for this day! For a while it looked like I might have to give up my dream because there were a bunch of issues that had to be straightened out with German customs and rabies shots etc. And with the exchange rate changing all the time I was beginning to think I couldn't afford her after all and I was totally bummed out.  Then I decided, I've  wanted this puppy for a long time and I'm going to get her even if I have to sell my soul to pay for the shipping. This is the first pure bred dog I have bought, though my husband did get a pure bred Pit Bull from a friend that was a breeder - he gave it to him for a wedding present.  All my other dogs, including my GSD were adoptions. I decided one dog in my life would be registered, pure bred, and good blood lines. I trust my trainer and know he knows the bloodlines so she will be good and healthy. She is coming from working bloodlines so highly trainable.  I have puppy toys. I'm ready. How will I survive the next 4 weeks?

Okay I am completely puzzled as to what to do.

Here is a short history. We need a new front door. The renter of our rental apartment on the other side of our duplex also decided he wanted a new door.   He called to say he had a friend that would put a door on his side including materials for $750 and that he was willing to pay for it. I told him to have the guy come over and talk to us as well because we had been planning to have a carpenter friend of ours put in a door on our side.  It's okay that the renter wanted to pay for his own door because he gets really cheap rent from us - like almost half what he should be charged.

So the carpenter came over, talked, and stood around. We left it that he would do Jim's (neighbor) door and Jim would pay for it and we would look at it and decide if we wanted him to do ours as well.

The carpenter came a few days later and installed a door on the rental side.  I was working doing billing during most of that time. When the carpenter came over and ask me to look  at the door. (I know very little about doors in the first place.) I went and looked at the door he put in. To my inexperienced eye it didn't look like quality work so when he asked when I wanted him to put our door in I said to wait until I talked to my  husband to see what he wanted to do and if it fit into his schedule etc and that I would get back to him.  As it turned out my husband agreed that it was not really very good work and decided not to have him do it. When he called to tell him that we were going to use a different carpenter the first carpenter got all bent out of shape exclaiming that he had already bought the materials and primer coated the door. Then he says we have to pay for his work and materials and that he will drop off the stuff at our house Monday (today). My husband told him no we didn't want the stuff. In my opinion he shouldn't have bought the stuff before he was given the job any how. It is apparent that he just went out and bought two of everything to begin with when he got the neighbor's stuff.

So today I left for a short time (half hour or so) and when I came home the door and all the materials the guy bought are leaning on the house in the front yard. I called the carpenter and he doesn't answer or respond to messages. I left the message that we didn't ask for the door and don't want the door and what does he want us to do with it. Now A: I feel bad because the guy went out and bought the stuff he isn't going to get paid for. B: I'm pissed off that I have to feel bad for him because I never told him to buy the stuff to begin with much less tell him he had the job. and C: my husband is pissed off because I wasn't here when the guy left the stuff here to stop him from leaving the stuff here - not my fault the way I look at it.

So, anyone out there have any opinions on what the correct thing to do is. The carpenter doesn't do professional work and I don't want him to do our door. We have a friend that is a carpenter who will do our door and do a professional job. Should we ignore the first guy and just have our guy get his own materials and put in the door and thresh hold we want and give the other stuff away if the first guy doesn't come back for it? On the other hand, now we have to store this stupid door and materials when we really have no storage space and I would like to get rid of it. I'm pissed off that I even have to deal with this. My husband should have made it clear to the guy, although when he was trying to talk to the guy on the phone he got hung up on. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Current Location: Back Home

My daughter took me up to the mainland for the weekend. We had a great time staying at the Sheraton, shopping, playing cards, and eating out. When we parked in the parking lot to eat out we parked next to this really NICE Corvette. The special license plate said "HMI ETR" (meaning it could blow away the Hemi's I suppose) and there was a sticker on the window that said "Yes it's fast and no you can't drive it". I suppose I shouldn't be so entertained by that but it was a nice car with an obviously proud owner.  After eating we went to an Outdoor World sports store and looked at hand guns. My daughter has never had a chance to shoot one (even though we own several rifles and I have a little .25 semi automatic pistol) since it's illegal to fire a gun in Monroe County so I figured it was a good time to show her some different varieties. We looked at Glocks, Rugers, Sigs, and a couple Smith and Wessons, both semi automatics and revolvers. The one we liked best was a  Ruger .357 revolver. It had really nice balance and both of us felt comfortable with the grip. Maybe I'll get one for my birthday.

So now that we are back home we went to the park and my daughter took some pictures of Pyrate for me.

Current Music: Silence is golden after the bulldozers
Haven't updated for awhile. It took me a week to get over visiting my mom and her husband. That is always exhausting because there are no conversations where my input is welcome. And there are no dogs! Mostly I just nod and smile. This will give you an idea of the weekend. They are ultra conservative Catholic / Republicans who believe whatever the church tells them to. My mother belives that if Obama is elected we will all have to wear burkas. I am apparently an uber liberal hippy compared to their view point and couldn't resist throwing in at least one comment about how there are really pretty head scarves for sale at the turnpike rest areas just in case he gets elected (I know I'm bad but I was going over the edge really fast). But, on the other hand the road trip was fun. My daughter and I always have fun on our trips. We enjoy music and eating the same foods, and we stopped on the way home at this huge Borders bookstore - it's two whole stories tall. We also got mother and daughter piercings. I got my ear cuff pierced at the top so I can wear a tiny silver ring there and she got her naval pierced. My naval is already pierced so I had to pick a different spot.

So we had fun playing games this weekend. First Chey and I had a 13 game run on Duel Monsters - I might add she totally whipped me. Then on Saturday evening the whole family got together with a bowl of popcorn and played an old game from the 70's we had totally forgotten about. It's called Dealer McDope. The object is to go to foreign ports and purchase pot, opium, cocaine, or hash and then travel to other ports to sell it. You actually get cards that say 100 lbs of marijuana, 500 pounds of opium, 10 lbs of coke, etc (not the real thing). Along the way you encounter rip offs, jail, bad acid trips, and other bad things, but some good things like payoffs, found money, etc. So the winner is the first one to have $2 million. After playing for around 4 hours my daughter won.  It's a lot like a hippy version of Monopoly but more fun. Anyway I had a really good time playing games for a change instead of watching nothing shows on TV.

Here is an intelligence test for fun.

You can take the test and then review your scores. I got two wrong. How Smart Are You?

Okay the time change officially sucks. Not only does my dog not want to get up and eat breakfast, but the cats are confused, as was this little guy who I found in my back yard when I opened the door in the morning. Of course it was still dark out  so being a nocturnal animal it probably thought it was safe (since no one told the wild animal world about the time change apparently).

This weekend the water was so calm we just had to take the boat out. The water was too cold to swim but the sun was nice and the ocean was calm so we traveld out to the reef and grabbed an anchor bouy for ourselves. We sat out there and fed the fish crackers and munched a little too. It's a no take zone so there is no fishing allowed but the fish are fun to feed because they come right up to the boat begging like they know they are in a safe zone. The reef is beautiful with all kinds of tropical fish on it and the water is clear - 15 feet looks like 3 feet. - so you can look down into it and see the reef and the fish.  We saw our neighbors out there and took a picture of their boat so I'm putting that and a picture of the lighthouse marker out there.  It's called Sombrero Light. I'm adding a picture of me and my dog when he was a puppy so you can see the beautiful water. Pyrate was only 4 months old or so here.

Just some fun stuff about me.

 1. Did you watch the Oscars last night? What did you think of them?
Started to watch but got bored and fell asleep in my chair.

2. Have you ever called in sick to work when you weren't really sick? What did you spend the day doing instead?
Well, yes, went out on the boat instead and got some lobster

3. In school did you ever have to serve detention? What for?
Yes, I skipped out of class on Friday and had to do detention for a week when I was a senior.

4. Have you ever had food poisoning? What did you eat that caused it?
No, I got lucky because my husband got it but I didn't because I didn't eat the same thing he did when we were in Jamiaca

5. Do you have any tattoos? If not, would you ever consider getting one?
Don't have any tattoos because I never had the money, the inclination, and the opportunity all at the same time. I did want one and had it all designed but there was no place to get it done. Then I found a place, but didn't have the money later on. Then I had the money and the place, but not the nerve to have it. I hate pain!
